Comprehensive study of practical field science from wildlife to soil, water and plant environments.

The Department of Environmental Bioscience explores the protection of wildlife and the creation of spaces for biological symbiosis, seeking to create harmony between man and nature. In this field, students learn how to elucidate the features of the biological environment unique to each region, manage and preserve the harmony between natural plant and animal systems, and maintain biodiversity. In addition, students learn how to create rich environments for organism survival and how to manage, preserve, and restore environments in a practical and comprehensive manner.

Areas of Study

Focusing on Education and Research in Wildlife Conservation

We have a full range of wildlife-related research groups, including wildlife studies and animal ecology, which play a central role in the School of Veterinary Medicine. The curriculum includes courses on animal ecology and habitat maintenance, as well as courses on techniques for restoring ecosystems. Additionally, this course of study incorporates courses in veterinary medicine and animal resource science in order to strengthen cooperation among the departments.

Ecological Knowledge, Environmental Diagnosis Skills, and Environmental Creation Skills

Students learn about the ecology of soil, water, and air, and the biology of plants and animals, as well as the natural cycles of these resources. In order to diagnose and monitor environments where organisms live, students also study technologies based on bioenvironmental engineering, such as analytical chemistry, surveying, and remote sensing, as well as technologies for creating environmental infrastructure in which humans and wildlife can coexist.

A Wide Range of Career Paths for Well-Prepared Graduates

Graduates of the Department of Environmental Bioscience work as public servants in their local communities or private companies in a variety of fields. These include technical civil servants (at the prefectural level and in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries) who implement and supervise projects like the development of agricultural land and production to protect local people's livelihoods; environmental consultants who conduct surveys of flora and fauna and analyze the environment; greening and landscaping workers who are involved in rooftop greening and park development; information workers who collect and analyze environmental data; and construction-related jobs in the field of regional environmental engineering. Many also go on to graduate school and become researchers who contribute to the development of advanced technology.

動植物などから生まれた有機物資源。再生可能であり、化石燃料の代替として利用が期待されています。

Qualifications

Senior High School Teacher

First-class license (agriculture)

Students can obtain a senior high school type 1 teacher certification (agriculture) by taking the designated courses.

Trainee Engineer (Assistant Professional Engineer)

This national qualification is equivalent to passing the first Professional Engineer examination and certifies one’s proficiency and advanced knowledge of science and technology, preparing one to become an assistant professional engineer.

Assistant Natural Regeneration Practitioner

Regeneration practitioners have the fundamental knowledge required for understanding how to promote natural regeneration.

Assistant Surveyor/Surveyor

Qualifications as a surveyor are not only useful in civil engineering and construction but also for companies involved in greening and environmental conservation and civil servants involved in regional planning and agricultural infrastructure development.
