After acquiring basic skills and knowledge, such as the concept of animal welfare and an understanding of breeding management techniques, students can study a wide range of topics in the animal science field: animal welfare; animal behavior; animal therapy, or the relationship between animals and people; bioscience, including cellular engineering; animal microorganisms; animal feed science, including pet food; and the relationship between animal food and health.
Students conduct research in a wide range of fields, including animal ecology and welfare, hormones and physiologically active substances in animals, fertilization and development, the relationship between microorganisms surrounding animals and human health, the safety and function of animal foods, and the development of pet foods. In addition, the research you conduct has the potential to contribute to society in the future. Students absorb a lot of knowledge and skills and are encouraged to take up new challenges.
Through Kitasato University's collaborative education program in agriculture and medicine, students will develop a perspective that transcends the boundaries of current academic disciplines and will be able to take part in four crucial fields that are expected to play an important role in the future: food safety, assisted reproductive medicine, medical laboratory animals, and animal-assisted activities.
